DANGEROUS DREAMS FARM’S DOTTIE
12/14/17
“Dottie”
Dottie is the newest addition to Karma. She was bred Elizabeth Phares, “Liz” out of Buckner, Missouri. Her dam is Ivy, Sire Tweed.
Like Ducky and Tai, she made no bones about the fact that she was coming home with me. She was the first puppy to crawl in my lap when I sat down in their x-pen. She then kept crawling in my lap when I attempted to talk to her sisters. I’m getting smarter, I quickly said if you want to come home with me I’m not arguing. Good decision on my part.
Dottie just might be the smartest dog that I’ve ever owned. She is wicked smart about picking up new information. She learned Retrieve over the High Jump in one session.
I’ve tried to be patient about taking her to stock…it’s really hard because she is so much fun. She’s not in any way easy mind you. She’s a little barracuda on stock. She has no fear and we struggle to come to a meeting of the minds about working the edge of the bubble and not in the bubble.
9/2/18 Update: I was over in Prospect for some lessons so I decided to work her on the geese. She had not seen birds for several months and those had been ducks. I was a little worried at first because she wouldn’t turn onto the birds but she finally saw them as animals to be moved. We had lots of diving and gripping wings then and finished up with her moving them with some control. We took a break.
There were four rams in with three miniature heifers. She went around and with some work shed out the four rams and took them into the back pasture…at which point she split through them and took three of them for a quick trip to the far back line but then brought them back. We worked on getting some control and then took another break.
Res and I were talking in the same pen that the heifers were in. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Dottie slinking toward the cows. We turned to watch. She did better on the cows than she had with either the geese or the sheep. I did have Tai get them out of a corner for her but her intent was always to keep them together and under control.
Update March,2019. Dottie is now an RN. She won a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for her title. (3rd place was my fault. I missed a sign!) She has one leg on her RA and we are entered to finish her title and move on up for April. We are working on agility.
I don’t think there is anything outside of this puppy’s reach.
